Symptoms

When connecting from a remote console:

  • The user sees a "Welcome to LANDESK" screen.

  • The following message appears: "Console Login Error: You have insufficient rights to launch the console. Validate that you have been assigned a role or that you belong to a group that has been assigned a role."

Cause

This error is due to the fact that a password has been modified for the Service Account.

As this account is used in different processes, it requires some changes to be done in order to have it using the right password.

It could also means that the user you are trying to log in with is not a member of either LANDesk Administrators or LANDesk Management Suite.

Resolution

From your Core Server:

Run CreateLANDeskRights.exe that you will usually find in:

C:\Program Files\LANDesk\ManagementSuite

Then run ResolveUserGroups.exe which is in the same folder

Change the Component Services (COM+) user credentials by running the following command, and right click, Properties on each LANDesk component (LANDesk and LANDesk1):

comexp.msc

You will then have to reboot your Core Server and once all the services are running, try again to log in the Remote Console.
